In Africa, we all know granite. It’s everywhere by the roadside, in quarries, even in our backyards. If someone gave you a block of granite today, you’d probably ask them: “So… what must I do with this heavy thing?”

But now, give me just a handful of gold and suddenly I’m respected, valued, and maybe even get VIP treatment at my village meeting. Both are stones, but one is common, the other scarce. Scarcity creates value.

Salespeople, Take Notes

In sales, some of us behave like granite always available, always saying “Yes boss, I’ll come anytime you want.”

Picture this: a client says, “Can you meet today at 2pm?” Most salespeople rush: “Yes sir, even now! I’m already outside the gate!”

Wrong move. You just made yourself granite.

Instead, pause, breathe for 10 seconds, then say: “Hmm… my schedule is quite tight, but I think I can squeeze you in tomorrow at 11.”

Now suddenly, the client sees you as valuable. Because if you’re always free, why should they value your time?

Love Lessons from Scarcity

My sisters, let me borrow a page from relationships. If you’re always available for that guy, picking calls at the first ring, showing up every time he whistles, you lose value.

Next time, just say: “This weekend? Sorry, I’m busy.”

Watch how quickly he starts respecting you and planning better. Men chase what is scarce, not what is free like granite on the roadside.

Scarcity = Respect

Whether in sales or in love, people respect what is scarce:

  • Diamonds are just stones, but rare ones.

  • Gold is just a mineral, but scarce.

  • Your time is just hours, but limited.

So don’t give it away freely. Make it count.

Stop being granite. Be gold. Be scarce, be valued, and watch how clients (and lovers) start treating you with respect.
