In tough times, everyone loves to talk. In smart times, only a few act.
Look around. The talk is everywhere: “The economy is rubbish.” “Jobs are disappearing.” “Opportunities? What opportunities?” Sure, those are facts. But while some are busy complaining, others are quietly making money from the very problems everyone else moans about.
Remember the COVID-19 lockdowns? Most folks were glued to their phones, doom-scrolling, wondering how to survive the next week. But a handful saw an opening sanitizer, masks, gloves. They didn’t wait for handouts or government programs; they hustled. Made the products locally, sold fast, made cash. By the time everyone else caught on, the market was flooded and the early movers were already counting profits.
Or rewind further: When mobile internet hit Zimbabwe, half the people didn’t even know how to set it up. Some young hustlers became the “internet doctors” of their neighborhoods charging a small fee, getting people connected, and building a loyal customer base without fancy offices or big budgets.
And the smartphone era? Old SIM cards didn’t fit the new phones. Who fixed that? The street techs with scissors! They charged for cutting SIM cards to size before the big operators even noticed.
Here’s the deal: Be first, and you decide the price. Be first, and you own the market. Be first, and everyone else ends up as your customer.
By the time the crowd shows up, the gold is gone. The opportunity has passed.
Money doesn’t listen to your excuses. It listens to your speed and courage.
So remember in the hustle game, if you’re not first, you’re last.
