Life has a funny way of teaching us. Sometimes lessons come from books, mentors, or billionaires… And sometimes they come from a random Facebook comment at 10pm.

I’ve realised that whether you grow up in Watsomba or London, whether you start on the streets of Harare or in a corporate boardroom learning never stops. And surprisingly, some of my most practical lessons have come from people right here on Facebook.

The Suit Button Incident That Changed My Fashion Life

Let me confess something. For a long time, I used to pin all the buttons on my suit.

Top button? Closed. Middle button? Closed. Bottom button? Closed. Even that imaginary invisible button? CLOSED.

Whether I was on stage or sitting down, I was pinned like a Grade 1 going for a school photoshoot.

One day, a lady commented on my video:

“Jerry, please… when you are speaking do not pin all your suit buttons. Pin one, or do not pin at all.”

At first, I felt attacked. After all, some of us grew up in Watsomba the first time you wear a suit you treat it with too much respect. But before responding, I decided to research.

I checked Obama. I checked Messi. I checked Putin. I checked Mugabe. I even checked Trevor Noah for balance.

Guess what? The lady was 100% right.

From that day, my suit fashion habits evolved. Facebook University had corrected me.

The “Actually” Problem

Another kind soul came into my inbox and said:

“Jerry, you say ‘actually’ too much when you speak.”

I didn’t want to believe it… until I replayed my videos.

“Actually… actually… actually…” I sounded like a generator refusing to start.

From that feedback alone, I became conscious of my speech patterns. Today, I hardly use the word. That one message improved my communication.

Again Facebook University strikes!

If Warren Buffett Still Reads, Then Who Is Jerry Not to Learn?

One day Warren Buffett was asked the secret to his success.

The man is worth over 150 billion dollars. He is 95 years old. He has seen it all, built it all, achieved it all.

Yet his answer was simple:

“I spend the first three hours of my day reading.”

My first reaction was hilarious:

Whose books is he reading at that level?

But that is the point. Learning is a lifelong journey.

If Warren Buffett, at 95 with billions, still treats reading as oxygen…

Who am I? Who is Jerry from Watsomba to act as if he knows enough?

Lessons From Everywhere

I learn from books. I learn from YouTube. I learn from mentors, entrepreneurs, and experiences. But I also learn from YOU the people in my comment section and inbox.

Some teach me about dressing. Some teach me about speech clarity. Some challenge my thinking. Some correct me publicly. Some correct me privately.

It all helps me grow.

The Big Lesson

Growth does not need a classroom. Wisdom does not need a title. Feedback is a gift even when it comes wrapped in humour on Facebook.

Stay open. Stay teachable. Stay curious. Even a simple comment can transform your life.

And yes… My suit buttons are now behaving.
