Have you ever called your internet service provider when your WiFi is misbehaving? It doesn’t matter if you call Econet, TelOne, Liquid, or even that cousin of yours who sells WiFi from his backyard they all sound the same.

“Good afternoon, my name is so-and-so, how may I help you today?” You almost think these guys are siblings raised by the same mother. But here’s the truth: it’s not family it’s a script.

Yes, a script.

Think of it like Nollywood or Hollywood. Do you really think Tom Cruise jumps off a helicopter and starts fighting bad guys without a plan? No, my friend. He spends weeks memorizing lines, practicing movements, and following a script. That’s why it looks smooth. That’s why you clap your hands and say, “Yooo this guy is talented!”

Now let’s bring it back home to business. In sales, if you don’t have a script, you’re just like an actor who walks on stage and says, “Ehhh, let me just freestyle.” You’ll embarrass yourself.

A sales script is not about sounding robotic. It’s about having a map. It guides how you greet your prospect, how you ask questions, how you handle objections, and how you close the deal. Without it, you’ll be stammering like a DJ with a scratched CD.

Imagine this: You walk into a sales meeting, the client asks, “So why should we choose you over others?” And you start scratching your head saying, “Ehhh, you see… we have passion… we love what we do…” By the time you’re done fumbling, the deal is gone.

But if you had a script, you’d already know the powerful points to mention. You’d already have your killer one-liner ready, like, “Because we don’t just sell products, we solve problems. And here’s how we’ll solve yours…”

Scripts are your safety net. They don’t make you fake they make you consistent. Think about church pastors. Every Sunday they preach powerfully, but guess what? They have sermon notes. They don’t just wake up and say, “Let the spirit lead.” No, they prepare. Sales is the same.

So, my brother, my sister, if you want to be taken seriously in sales get yourself a script. Practice it until it flows naturally. Adjust it as you go. And soon, your customers will say, “This one knows what they’re doing.”

Because let’s face it even actors, pastors, and call center agents have scripts. Why should you be the only one trying to freestyle your way to poverty?
